DESCRIPTION
Night Vision monocular system VN/296 - 396 offers
high resolution, image intensified night vision in a very lightweight
single eyepiece configuration that through a III Generation tube guaranties
a greater sensitivity and increased resolution under conditions of extremely
low light levels.
The new concept of a single eye format night vision system is based on
independent use of each eye. One eye is equipped with a night vision device
while the other eye remains free and uncovered. This solution eliminates
the major disadvantage of the standard dual eyes goggle: the one minute
pupil dilation period after the goggle is removed. During this period
the user may be night-blind. With a monocular VN/296 -396 the uncovered
eye is already dilated and provides instant transition to ambient light
viewing.
Another advantage of the monocular is the wider perceived field of view:
the user has a 40° FOV on the right eye and 90° minimum peripheral
vision with his free eye. The lightweight, water resistant monocular may
be faceback mounted (with or without helmet) or used as a hand-held viewer.
The standard 1x magnification is highly effective for short medium range
surveillance. In totally dark environments, an integral IR Light Emitting
Diode provides illumination for map reading and other close range observations.
A 3X magnification option is available for long range observation.
